BHUBANESWAR: The 10 sports hostel boys, who were the first to pack relief materials at the state-level relief centre at Kalinga Stadium termed their experience as the 'most satisfying performance'.
The athletes, who skipped their puja vacation and were undergoing training prior to the national-level sports meet of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), which will begin in New Delhi on Thursday, stated they were delighted to be part of the relief operation. The U-19 athletes left for Hatia by Tapaswini Express on Tuesday. They will go to New Delhi from Hatia.
"Packing relief materials was more satisfying than even winning medals in a national meet," said Tapan Behera from Cuttack. He will participate in the 100 m race.
Mini-marathon runner and hurdler Dasarathi Dakua from Ganjam, the worst affected district, said "I have no time to visit my place and meet relatives. I hope my little act can help some affected people."
Football coach Bijay Kanunogo , swimming coach Surendra Kumar Naik, sports department officials, Rajesh Singh, Rajendra Pani, B Mohanty and Bharati Mishra, also participated in the first day relief packing operations with the athletes on Friday.
